Diva Deeda

Diva e blogs,

Diva Mim was busy on her birthday doing the "good deed". Hats off to the wet birthday girl.

Why, I ponder, are so many deeds associated with rubbish? Is it that they are Soooooooo easy to spot, or so common it makes me want to cry? What happened to "litter bug, litter bug, shame on you, look at the terrible things you do"?

How many good deeds are just waiting for the doing?

Donating clothing, food, furniture
Cleaning a public restroom sink
Holding a door open for anyone
Paying someone's toll behind you
Letting someone go ahead of you ANYWHERE
Putting back mis-placed items in a store
Picking up litter (of course)
Recycling
Participating in a charity event
Buying someone a coffee or tea (in line)
Giving a compliment for ANY REASON
Cleaning off someone's car in a snowstorm (yes I know, next year)
Weeding someone's garden - finally we have weather to grow them

So find a good deed somewhere in the list. The great thing about good deeds, they cost so little and create so much good will.

weather helped me get my good deed in

Trash everwhere again! I got home Monday night after work and there were boxes and papers - wet and soggy - all over our street. (not ours) Thank heaven it's a short street. I really didn't want to get wet, but then thought of the excellent example set by Diva e, and went out and braved the rain and wind. I got all the wandering papers into our trash and locked the lid down tight.

Trash Walker, Trash Talker

Diva e blogs:

Litter has always been the bane of my existence. It can send me into a tailspin, road rage, and cause me to say unkind things, sometimes to the offender, sometimes just really, really loud, but out of earshot.

I've had an Aha! moment with litter. I've become the Trash Walker. I now carry at least one rubbish bag and a pair of disposable gloves with me on every walk. I made a logo, which I print on bright paper and attach to the ties of the fully, loaded trash bag. Most trash isn't on an easily identifiable piece of property. It's along the overpass and underpass, the marsh by the river, or the woods along a side street.

When the bag is full, I tie up the end with the sign attached (on one side it says "This area has been visited by the Trash Walker; on the other side it says "Trash Walker: picking up trash one walk at a time"). It's a walking trash barrel with a smile on it, two eyes, and two legs. After filling the bag(s), I leave them in a very prominent place, hoping that the rubbish collectors will pick them up. If they don't, I'm hoping some guilt will cause a nearby business or homeowner to add it to their weekly rubbish collection. If no one picks them up, a call to the local newspaper may be in order to get a little litter publicity.

oh those errant shopping carts

Like Diva e ~ I've been "catching carts" for the past few days. Dont' get me started on the lazy people who leave their carts behind my car . . . instead of getting upset I just wheeled it (along with mine and many more) to it's rightful place. I haven't "saved" any cars that I know of, but I have had a sense of well- being when I have helped out in a little way.

Run-away Cart

Diva e blogs:

This is one for the books. I was leaving the Whole Foods parking lot in Swampscott, MA, driving slowly down the lot. The wind was howling and a shopping cart began an unmanned journey across my path, headed for several parked cars. I stopped in the middle of the lot, got out of the car and captured the rogue cart before it hit anything, or anyone. I got back in my car and drove away!

Another car saved from the dings of a deadly cart.
